At Xalient, we’re all about celebrating the amazing people in our team, and with International Women’s Day taking place on Saturday, we wanted to shine a light on our colleague Shivani Mishra, Customer Delivery Analyst. She is participating in the UN Women UK programme as a digital participant at the 69th Commission on the Status of Women (#CSW69). It’s a huge global movement driving change, amplifying voices, and pushing forward women’s rights-and we’re so proud she’s part of it!

What’s CSW69 All About?
CSW69 brings together leaders, activists, and organisations from around the world to discuss policies and initiatives that impact women and girls everywhere. As a digital participant, Shivani will be tuning into virtual sessions and panel discussions, connecting with other advocates, and sharing insights to keep the conversation going beyond the event itself.
“The UN Women UK platform is an incredible way to connect with people who are passionate about making real change. I wanted to be part of a community that’s actively tackling gender inequality, especially at such a critical time,” says Shivani.
Why Gender Equality Benefits Everyone
One of the key messages of CSW69 is the “Equal IS GREATER” campaign, which highlights how gender equality isn’t just good for women- it’s good for everyone. In fact, research shows that closing the gender gap could add a massive $12 trillion to the global economy! When women and girls have equal opportunities, entire communities thrive.
“This campaign really hammers home the fact that gender equality isn’t just about fairness – it’s about making society stronger. When we remove barriers for women and girls, we unlock potential that benefits everyone,” says Shivani.
The Key Issues Shivani’s Focusing On
Shivani is especially interested in two big topics: digital inclusion and economic empowerment.
“With technology shaping so much of our world, it’s vital that women have equal access to digital tools, training, and career opportunities. I’m also passionate about tackling women’s economic empowerment through better social protections and services.”
Her passion for this comes from personal experience. “When I was studying, there were so few women in my technical courses, and it often made me question whether I belonged. Representation really matters, and I want to help create spaces where all women feel they can thrive, whatever field they’re in.”

How We Can All Support Gender Equality
Shivani believes that everyone – individuals and businesses alike – has a role to play. “Start where you are with what you have. Businesses can review their policies around hiring, promotions, and pay. People can speak up when they see inequality, mentor young women, and support female-led businesses. Small actions, when they add up, can make a big difference.”
She also acknowledges the big challenges that still exist: economic inequality, lack of representation in leadership, and unequal access to education and healthcare. “We need strong policies, targeted support programmes, and a shift in cultural attitudes to make real progress.”
Looking to the Future
Despite the challenges, Shivani remains hopeful. “I want to see a world where gender doesn’t determine what opportunities you have. A world where diverse female voices shape the decisions that affect us all. Gender equality shouldn’t be something we fight for – it should just be the way things are.”
International Women’s Day: Accelerate Action
For International Women’s Day, Shivani hopes to inspire others to get involved. “I want people to realise they can be part of the change. By sharing what I learn at CSW69, I hope to make global advocacy feel more accessible and show that there are things we can all do, no matter where we are.”
She’s already taken action in her own life. “During my studies, I helped set up a mentoring circle for women in STEM. What started as casual coffee chats turned into a structured programme where junior students could connect with seniors and alumni. It’s been amazing to see how much confidence and support has come out of it.”
What Can You Do?
If you want to support gender equality but aren’t sure where to start, Shivani’s advice is simple: “Start by listening and learning. Follow organisations like UN Women, educate yourself on gender equality issues, and find one small action you can take – whether that’s mentoring, advocating for change, or supporting female-led initiatives.”
Promoting Gender Equality in Tech
Shivani also highlights some keyways to make the tech industry more inclusive: “Challenge stereotypes, use inclusive language, and make sure women’s voices are heard in meetings. Businesses should have transparent hiring practices, equal pay policies, and flexible working arrangements. Mentorship and introducing girls to tech careers early on are also game changers.”
Final Thoughts
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we’re incredibly proud of Shivani’s commitment to gender equality and her involvement in CSW69. At Xalient, we believe that an equal world is a better world, and we’re committed to doing our part in driving meaningful change.
