As part of our ongoing interview series to mark International Women’s Day 2024, we sat down with Brian Ramsey, VP Sales – Americas. In this interview, Brian shares his insights into Xalient’s commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion within the tech industry.
How does Xalient actively support women in the tech industry? Are there specific initiatives or experiences that have stood out to you?
In the 4.5 years that I have been with Xalient, I have been impressed with the commitment to our Diversity and Inclusion Programs. We have created a welcoming and inclusive workplace for individuals of all backgrounds, including women. We have invested resources to educate employees on unconscious bias and foster a more inclusive culture.
Xalient prides itself on being an inclusive. How do you see this translating into day-to-day work life for everyone on the team?
It’s all about our People and Company Culture. From the start, recruiting and interviewing, we take the extra time and effort to protect the amazing culture we have built. This translates into a day-to-day work life with Open Communications where team members are encouraged to express their thoughts, ideas, and concerns. There is an open-door policy where employees feel comfortable approaching leadership with feedback or issues.
Megan, your daughter, recently did a placement at Xalient. How do you think this experience contributed to supporting her and encouraging more women to pursue careers in tech?
Proud Dad moment when Meg joined Xalient for the summer. Summer internship Programs provide many benefits to young women pursuing a career in tech:
- Role Modelling – I can’t think of 2 stronger Women Role Models for my daughter than Sherry Vaswani and Dorota Gibiino. Positive experiences of women succeeding in tech are so powerful and can inspire similar paths.
- Hand-On Experience – Meg was provided practical, hands-on experience in a real-world tech environment. She gained a better understanding of the industry, the work involved, and the skills required.
- Network and Mentorship – Connecting with other women who have succeeded in tech provides valuable guidance and a sense of community.
How do you see the role of men in promoting gender diversity in the workplace, and what steps can we take to create a more inclusive tech industry?
Gender diversity is crucial for creating an equitable environment. Men can be powerful allies in fostering diversity, and here are some steps we can take to create a more inclusive tech industry:
-
-
- Educate yourself – understand and recognize the challenges and barriers.
- Lead by example – demonstrate inclusive behaviour.
- Promote equal opportunities – fair hiring, equal pay and advancement.
- Challenge Stereotypes – question and challenge gender stereotypes.
